CHALLENGE:  Earn enough money to attend the National Art Education Association’s annual conference in Baltimore, Maryland in April.
HOW:  Sell enough paintings to friends and family
DETAILS:  I will be selling 16X20 paintings for a minimum donation of $100.  Size is negotiable, and I will definitely be taking subject/inspiration/color scheme requests from those who chose to partake.  Price is also negotiable, and for those who would like to spend less, I can print some of my photographs.  If I earn more money than I need to attend the conference I will be donating the difference to Free Arts Minnesota, a local arts organization that runs art programs for children at homeless shelters in the Twin Cities.
WHY: The theme this year is “Art Education and Social Justice.”  My interest in the combination of these two things is pretty ridiculous, so it seems wrong to just miss it because of some little budget issue.  I have gotten out of the swing of reading, writing, and immersing myself in this stuff after graduation, and this would be a great step to get back into it.
ADDED BONUSES:  I recently challenged myself to a 30 day painting challenge to see if I could paint every day for 30 days- I’m only 4 days in.  I want painting and art making in general to become more a part of my everyday life, more of a routine.  This challenge gives me even more incentive to continue the with the 30 days and hopefully beyond.  Maybe by the summer I will have painted enough to have a body of work to put in a show.  Maybe.
SO.  Here we go, I’m off to paint.  If I can peel my sleeping puppy off my lap.
